Mavericks Kick Off the Season with a 26-3 Victory!

Dekkar Williams 12 TKL

Hunter Price 10 TKL

Brandon Jones 4 TKL, 2 Caused Fum., 1 TFL, 1 Fum Rcv, 1 INT

Offensive Stats Week 1:

Adrian Smith 15-130yds-2 TD's

Caleb Cole 14-92yds-2 TD's

The 2008 McNeil Mavericks started the 2008 season with a dominant 26-3 victory over one of the top 5A programs in the state, A&M Consolidated on Friday at RRISD Stadium.  In front of a sell out crowd, the Mavericks came out and took control of the game from the first series.  After the defense got a stop on the Tigers first series, the offense kept the ball on the ground and scored the first TD of the season.  The Mavericks did not look back as the offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage allowing the running game to move the chains and control the clock for four quarters.  The offense and defense both played very strong but special teams also made a difference in the game by maintaining field position and forcing the Tigers to make long drives which they did not.  The second half was more the same as the defense would cause some turnovers and give the offense opportunities to close the game out.  There were to many outstanding performances to mention but here are a few names who differentiated themselves on the field:  Offense - Reginald Cole, Adrian Smith, the offensive line.  Defense - Brendon Jones, Kurt Killens, Dekkar Williams, Rob Finley, Phil Steinart and Casey Strong.

Next week the Mavericks travel to Belton to take yet another tough Tigers team.

Go Mavs!

Mavericks Look Solid in Scrimmage Against Westlake

The 2008 McNeil Mavericks started the 2008 season with a solid showing against the Westlake Chaparrals.  Both JV and Varsity Mavericks played strong on both sides of the ball which made the coaches happy but they still need to work hard this week in practice to prepare for the season opener against A&M Consolidated.  On offense, the Mavericks scored on ground  and through the air with the help of a good performance by the offensive line.  The defense also played well and showed good tackling against the run and good pass coverage against the Westlake passing game.  The coaches will work with the team this week on the little things to make sure they are running on cylinders against A&M Consolidated on Friday.  To see pictures of both the JV and varsity scrimmages go to the photos page.

Go Mavs!
