Football Staff

Lee Penland - Head Coach & Athletic Coordinator

Coach Penland was the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Hutto High School, where he has held that position for the past twelve years. While at Hutto, Coach Penland has established an outstanding football program and has directed all athletic programs in the district.

Coach Penland has taken the football program to the state play-offs four of the last six years, including a trip to the 2005 3A State Finals. Coach Penland was named the 3A Coach of the Year for 2005 by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

Prior to coaching at Hutto, Coach Penland was the offensive coordinator at Bowie High School (1997-98), offensive coordinator at Austin High School (1993-97), and the defensive coordinator at Reagan High School (1992-93).

Coach Penland also served as the Head Track Coach at Reagan and, in 1992, won the 4A State Track and Field Championship.

Coach Penland has spoken at many clinics throughout the state and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Coach Penland has a B.S. degree from The University of Texas and holds World Geography and Physical Education and Health certifications in the state of Texas.

Attended McLennan Community College as a walk-on. Two year starter at SS for the Highlanders.

All Region V shortstop as a sophomore.

As a sophomore, MCC's baseball team finished third in the nation at the JUCO World Series.

Received baseball scholarship to Texas Tech University and played under Kal Segrist.

UPI All Southwest Conference as a senior at Tech.

Invited to spring training with Texas Rangers.

Married, July 1984 to the former Margaret Herget.

Two wonderful children. Daughter Taylor is a sophomore at McNeil and is a Majestic. Will is a seventh grader at Cedar Valley Middle School.

Hobbies include golf, fishing, and anything involving spending time with Taylor and Will.

Chris Douglas -  Head Coach (Freshmen) / Varsity Assistant Coach

Austin McCallum High School graduate, degree from Southwest Texas State University.

27 years of coaching football and basketball (New Braunfels ISD, SA Madison, Robstown High School, Austin Akins.

Wife is Robbie.
